MVS Eyes Mexico For Broadband Wireless Launch

Mexico City is the second-largest city in the world, and MVS Communications believes it is just the right spot to launch a high-speed wireless service.

The television and radio programmer is turning to NextNet Wireless to put its plan into action. NextNet will supply its Expedience non-line-of-sight broadband wireless access system. The Expedience system uses indoor, plug-and-play subscriber units for cell radius' up to five miles, and outdoor, bracket-mount subscriber units for extended range cell radius' up to 20 miles.

MVS will first target Mexico's three largest cities -- Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey -- when it launches the high-speed service this summer. By the end of 2003, the company plans to extend its service offering to 50 percent of Mexico's population by launching the service in six additional cities.

NextNet's Expedience NLOS system was commercially deployed in Northern Iowa in December 2001.
