Hutchison 3G is looking to deliver multi-channel
capability within its service delivery platform, and is turning
to Volantis Systems Ltd. to make it happen.
Volantis' Mariner software is designed to provide support for
wireless and broadband devices. Hutchison 3G intends to use the
software to manage the introduction, packaging and delivery of
dynamic content. Hutchison 3G chose the Volantis product for its
scalability and flexibility, says Colin Tucker, managing director
of Hutchison 3G. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The software initially will be deployed in the United Kingdom,
with future plans to make the software available in every country
where Hutchison Whampoa has 3G interests.
Hutchison Whampoa holds a 65 percent stake in Hutchison 3G. NTT
DoCoMo and KPN Mobile also hold stakes, 20 percent and 15 percent
respectively.
Hutchison 3G won a third-generation license from the U.K. government
in May 2000.
