Jungo joins CableHome initiative

Jungo Software Technologies is committed to the development of the home gateway, and the OpenRG software platform developer is joining the CableLabs Inc. CableHome initiative to ensure interoperability with other vendor's products.

Earlier this year, CableLabs released the CableHome 1.0 specification, which included technical information for gateway provisioning, diagnostics and security features. CableHome 2.0 is designed to build on CableHome 1.0 by adding AudioVisual application support, advanced security features and extended LAN capabilities. Jungo will chair the CableHome 2.0 security focus group.

By cooperating with CableLabs, Jungo obtain the "know-how" to better support its customers, according to Udi Yuhjtman, vice president of operations and business development at Jungo.

As part of its pact with CableLabs, Jungo is joining a royalty-free intellectual property rights pool. Jungo's OpenRG supports a variety of wired and wireless home networking protocols, including HomePNA, 802.11b and Bluetooth.

CableLabs is not the only group exploring the home networking world. In May, the OSGi, or Open Services Gateway Initiative, was announced. The OSGi Compliance Program established a framework to allow consumers to identify OSGi service platforms that have passed the testing required for certification under the OSGi Service Platform Release 2 specification.
